A little progress update… We’re still here!

January 8, 2017

I know it’s been so long since we last posted anything, but we’re still here and we’re still working on the van! We haven’t done all that much on it since the summer due to travelling and work, but we’ve made a little progress on it, especially the past couple of weeks!

We’re going to do some more in depth posts about everything in the next few weeks (so probably months, knowing us), but we’ll get there eventually! We’re planning on taking it out on a major road trip to The Netherlands over Easter in April, so we’ve got a whole load of work to do before then!

So, what have we done since our last posts?

Van Conversion - New Alloys

We got the wheels changed! Before they were just normal wheels with hubcaps, but they looked terrible and were so rusted, so we swapped them out for some new alloy wheels since the tyres were due to be changed anyway. They look SO much better!

Van Conversion - Water tanks

We’ve also fitted the water tanks underneath the van and installed the key thing on the side to get into the water tanks.

Van Conversion - Broken Fan Van Conversion - Broken Fan

We had a little issue with the van just before Christmas too! Shane called me up at 6am one morning telling me that the van was broken and it looked like it was the cambelt that had gone, so we’d basically need a new engine as there was metal everywhere inside it. Turns out that luckily it was only the fan and fanbelt so Shane bought all the parts and fixed it all with his friend. Apparently, it’s running a lot better than before now too!

And then the past couple of weeks Shane has been laying the van in insulation. It’s looking a whole lot better in there already and so much quieter! I actually couldn’t believe it when we were in it yesterday, and it was only 1 wall and a ceiling that was done at that point. Usually we have to shout to each other when we’re in the van, but we could actually talk to each other haha! We’ve still got a few more layers to go in on the walls and floor, then we’re going to put the floorboards in!

It’s so exciting seeing it all come together, even if it is only baby steps haha!

You have a good thing going on with the van, don’t slow down with the posts. It’s starting to look pretty nice đŸ˜‰

Thanks, Dan! I’m dying to do more blog posts about it, but we’ve barely had any time to actually work on the van haha! Hopefully soon!

Hi guys, loving the website, we’re a couple like yourselves just doing a similar transit conversion and noticed you used two of those fiamma 70l water tanks. I’ve been thinking about using that same tank but was wondering how you’re finding your water usage on the road? Is 140l enough water for you both and, if so how long does it last? WOuld you reccommend two tanks, or do you think you could get away with just one? Cheers Sam

Hi thanks! unfortunately our transit ended up being written off a couple years ago due to rust, so we know have a Fiat Ducato van! we never got around to using the blue tanks, however we do have a 65L fresh water tank in our current van and that will last us around 3 to 4 days easily, 4 to 5 depending on how conservative you are with water. We do not have a shower. Good luck!
