When we were looking for things to do in the south

When we were looking for things to do in the south of France, i didn't expect to find an area that transports you to the desert of Australia or America with a deep rusty soil. It was amazing to wander around.

I love that it's even called Provencal Colorado. There's a few trails you can take to different viewpoints, so if you're ever in the area around Aix-en-Provence or Luberon Natural Park, definitely try and stop by.

One of our favourite stops was this hike we did from Cassis to a viewpoint overlooking Calanque d'En-vau in the Calanques National Park on the French Riviera.

We did hope to do the hike to the beach, but the signs said it was quite difficult, and we'd already been hiking the cliffs to get to the viewpoint for a couple hours, so we decided to give it a miss.

Definitely recommend adding this to the list of places to visit if you're in the area.

One place i was really looking forward to visiting

One place i was really looking forward to visiting on our French roadtrip last autumn was Provence and the Côte d'azur. The picutres look amazing with the cure towns and villages and beachside towns.

Well, as amazing as France is with their aires and parkups, the south of France might aswell be the UK! We struggled to find anywhere to park, even just to visit sights for the day. Aires and parkups were few and far between and most campsites were closed for the season (we visited mid/late October). We had a little meltdown at one point and debated just turning around and coming home, but decided to just stick it out as it was that bad 😅. One one day we drove for about 2-3 hrs just trying to find somewhere to stay the night, but everywhere was either full or in really sketchy areas.

We did find this charming little village though with free off-road camper parking (thanks to whoever it was that messaged us about it) so we took a quick walk into town, had a wander and stayed there the night. Definitely worth a stop if you're in the area!

It's funny how some of the best parkups are always

It's funny how some of the best parkups are always just laybys with amazing viewpoints. We stayed here the first night at the lake ready to drive to Gorges du Verdon on the other side early the next morning. We had access to a littke stoney beach area just in time to watch the sunset and the moon come to life.

Is anyone else always amazed by the water in Europe? 😂 i feel like all i ever say when we go over is wow, look at the colour of this water, or it's so clear! But really, it is! I'm so used to our murkey green rivers here.

One of our favourite stops of our French roadtrip

One of our favourite stops of our French roadtrip last summer was Gorges du Verdon. We ended up staying 2 nights at the lake, one in a layby with amazing views of the lake and another in a tiny aire in a town with a short walk down to the beach.

I so wish we took our kayaks on this trip, because it would have been amazing to paddle over to the gorge. We drove around the lake, parked up at the viewpoint (pont du Galetas) and hired a pedalo (top tip, don't ever hire a pedalo with Shane 😅). All i got from him the entire hour we were out was how it was such an inefficient use of energy 🤣. If you do hire a pedalo, in low season (we were there in October) an hour would be plenty to pedal to the waterfall and back). In high season, i would suggest 2hrs at least because of how busy it gets there.

I couldn't get over the colour of the water - it's the most amazing turquoise which really glows when the sun shines.

I don't think we ever fully showed our finished van makeover since we removed the carpet. Well, a quick lets remove the carpet and switch to cladding turned into a whole situation and we ended up changing the ceiling and the tiles in the end too. I love the new fresh look so much!

Now we just need to get all of our photos back on the walls and a few more personal touches to finish it off.

I'm so glad we decided to install our porthole windows.
